MonoPrint
When I first heard the term “monoprint”, I was intrigued by what this process could offer artistically. A monoprint is a unique work of print created by an individual artist and it is not possible to achieve exact reproductions of the original artwork. Monoprints are prints that are made with a single matrix or printing element, such as a metal plate or block, usually marble, stone, plexiglass, or linoleum. For my first attempt at mono printing, I chose to explore different monotype techniques that used the additive, reductive and trace methods in order to create a series of abstract artwork focused around inference-based strategies in which focus can be lost as distractions become too much to bear. Through this experience I found myself reflecting on the concept of focus: how can someone remain relaxed while developing their vision even if they were surrounded by distractions? It was through this journey that I created my 'Inference Of Focus' monoprints which explore senses of contrast and depth.
